Making a Smooth Transition from iClicker to Top Hat’s Classroom Response System

Date : Thursday, May 12, 2022
Time : 12:00 pm–1:00 pm (EDT)
Audience: Instructors, Instructors at Commonwealth Campuses

Presented by: Teaching and Learning with Technology

Series: Engaging Students

Are you transitioning from iClicker to Top Hat’s classroom response system and interested in how to make a smooth transition? This session will focus on instructors who currently use iClicker but will be transitioning to the Top Hat teaching platform’s classroom response system. Facilitators and participants will discuss pedagogical reasons for using student response systems and goals for implementation. We will explore the Top Hat response system’s similarities to iClicker, examining how the teaching platform provides immediate feedback from quizzes and polls and reviewing the correctness and participation data that is available.

Additional advantages of using the Top Hat response system to promote active and collaborative learning will be examined. Later in the session, instructors that have already adopted Top Hat’s classroom response system will share their experiences with transitioning instructors and provide an opportunity for questions.

Since Top Hat’s classroom response system uses laptops, tablets, and phones to respond to polls and quizzes whether in a physical or virtual classroom, students can leave their “clickers” at home!

Note: Penn State’s iClicker support will end in May 2022.
